This past Saturday at NXT Takeover Brooklyn III, NXT proved itself how Talent will never be an issue for the developmental program.
From the opening match to the main event, every match had its purpose and the talent was able to execute even in a location such as the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Johnny Gargano and Andrade “Cien” Almas put it on one of the better opening matches in NXT’s short Takeover history. Sanity and The Authors of Pain put on a chaotic but fun match that not only saw the shocking NXT Tag Team title change and seeing The Authors of Pain losing their first match in NXT but after the match former Ring of Honor stars Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly attacked both Sanity and The Authors of Pain and holding onto the NXT Tag Team championships. The Brooklyn crowd also saw a striking battle between Hideo Itami and one of NXT’s newest superstars Aleister Black. Asuka’s undefeated streak continued when she defeated Ember Moon. The “Glorious” Bobby Roode NXT reign was ended after he was defeated by Drew McIntyre. McIntyre had little time to celebrate because in the corner he had Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly waiting for him but also was attacked by former Ring of Honor Champion Adam Cole who earlier last week was reported to debut for NXT soon.
Each Takeover, people always have some doubts because of match quality or because of the so called predictability that some matches may have for NXT fans. Those reasons did not create any problems for NXT Brooklyn III.
Even with all the talent that was displayed on Saturday’s Show, NXT still has superstars such as Roderick Strong, Kassius Ohno & newly signed Lio Rush just sitting there on the bench.
Doubts about the strength of the NXT roster will always occur because of the demand of talent needed on the Main Roster for Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live. For example former NXT champion Bobby Roode just made his Smackdown Live Debut this past Tuesday. It also has been reported by the Wrestling Observer Letter that there may be another Superstar shakeup which could mean even more call ups from NXT. The superstars who are rumored to be called up are former NXT Tag Team Champions The Author Of Pain, No Way Jose, Hideo Itami, Peyton Royce & Billy Kay.
The NXT brand looks like it does nothing but churn out stars and gets them ready for the big shows. NXT will always have the ability to replace talent because of outside sources such as the Indies and international talent all over the world. The more talent that NXT is able to bring over, the relationship between signed talent is created for unsigned talent because of friendships or working relationships.
Questions are still lingering about how WWE explains the relationship between Cole, O’Reilly and Fish. Do they mention their Ring of Honor careers? Will O’Reilly and Fish still go by reDragon? Will Adam Cole automatically contend for the NXT Championship?
Hopefully we find out soon on what will happen in the new chapter of NXT.
