Eli Drake vs Caleb Konley
For what feels like the first time in forever, last weeks edition of Impact starts with a wrestling match instead of 15 minute segment.
Eli and Caleb go for an collar and elbow lock tie up, Drake pushes Caleb against the ropes, then as usual shouts E-LI-DRAKE. Caleb doesn’t care and then proceeds to chop Eli, who goes to the outside. Caleb attempts a slingshot plancha but Drake quickly runs in the ring distracting the referee so Tyrus can interfere in the match (which was really unnecessary). Tyrus rolls Konley in the ring allowing Drake to attempt a pinfall in which Konley kicks out. As soon as this the moment shifted towards Konley who attempted the senton but Drake got the knees in a really painful looking spot. As always, Drake spends too much time playing to the crowd, allowing Konley to gain the advantage once again, throwing Eli to the outside and hitting a suicide dive. They come back into the ring again, in which Tyrus interferes AGAIN! Drake hits the superplex and then the Irish curse for the finish.
Eli Drake def. Caleb Konley via pinfall in 4;10 (**1/2)
Was a fine opener, but definitely could’ve benefited from not having Tyrus interfere.
After the match, Matthews and JB continue to argue as they have done for the past few weeks.
Like all of us, Bruce Prichard is sick and tired of this constant arguing, and tells both in
order to solve their issues, on next weeks Impact episode it will be Team JB vs Team Matthews
in an 8-man tag, they will both choose their team members at the end of the show.
Womens Gauntlet match
Ava Storie and Madison Rayne start things off, with Madison playing the bully role, Storie started to come back and kick ass until Rebel made her way to the ring. Rebel and Rayne start double teaming on Storie, but tension grew when Rayne attempted to toss Storie out of the ring, how idiotic. Entrant #4 was Amanda Rodriguez, the match was just full of bland brawling. Entrant #5 NJ Jenkins brightened things up a bit, as she hit a missile dropkick right away, but that probably the only bright spot of the match. 90 seconds later, Diamante came in and brought some good energy to the match, soon later, Rebel eliminated ACR from the match. ODB made her way to the ring, as she tossed in the women into one corner of the ring and hit the big splash, Ava was eliminated. Last entrant was the beautiful Brandi Rhodes, she came in like a house of fire, unfortunately for her she isn’t good enough to wrestle on television. Rebel and Diamante were both eliminated from the match. Both ODB and Brandi then eliminated NJ Jenkins from the match, Madison Rayne sneakily eliminated Brandi Rhodes from the match, leaving her and ODB as the final two. ODB quickly gained the advantage and then hit the TKO for the win.
ODB wins to become the #1 contender for the Knockouts title via pin in 9;21 (DUD)
The match had no flow whatsoever and is skippable to say the least.
James Storm makes his way to the ring and has returned in his Cowboy gimmick after the DCC had seemingly split up. He plays to the crowd for a while, as well as mentioning his son wearing a cowboy hat and then vows to become the World Heavyweight Champion once again. Bram and Kingston come out. Kingston claims that Storm lied to him about what he wanted from the DCC, Kingston proceeds to dig in deep by mentioning Storms son which got a reaction from the crowd, Kingston also claims that Storm is a “selfish little bitch” being that he only cares about himself. Storm says Kingston isn’t a man and says if he wanted a bitch he could’ve swiped left and right on Tinder instead of calling Kingston, crowd popped big time for that one and so did I. Kingston then spits in Storms face, who answers with the last call. Bram has a chair and hesitates to hit Storm for a few seconds until he goes for the kill, Storm ducks and hits the last call to Bram.
This segment has great fire to it, Kingston cut a great promo and so did Storm.
McKenzie Mitchell is interviewing Andrew Everett backstage, who claims he had Trevor Lee beat in their
X Divison match, a few week ago, until Helms interfered. Trevor Lee and Shane Helms interfere in this segment
with Helms saying if Everett wins the triple threat today he is one step closer to and X-Divison title shot.
Andrew Everett vs Marshe Rockett vs Suicide
From the get go, Everett and Suicide team together to get rid of the big man, then they proceed to lock up both men start trading forearms until Everett gets the advantage after hitting a neat headscissors, they go back and forth until Everett and Marshe are on the outside, Suicide then hits the suicide plancha leaving both men on the ground. Marshe gets involved by hitting clotheslines on Suicide and Everett, Marshe then hits a big powerslam on Everett who attempted a slingshot dive. Suicide enters the action once again, this time targeting Marshe, throwing him out of the ring. Everett is back up after the powerslam, he proceeds to throw Suicide onto Marshe on the outside, and then hits a beautiful corkscrew plancha. Shortly afterwards, Everett does the shooting star press on Marshe, 1,2,3.
Andrew Everett def, Marshe Rockett and Suicide via Pinfall in 6:30 (**3/4)
A good match for the time they got but never left first gear at all.
Eddie Edwards vs Davey Richards
This match is a Last Man Standing match. I know they’ve had great matches in ROH a couple of years ago, so I was very much looking forward to this.
Davey makes his way to the ring alongside his wife Angelina Love, all of sudden Eddie attacks Davey during his entrance and the match starts. Both men proceed to brawl by the guardrails, Eddie Edwards takes that shot of caffeine and nails his former best friend with the Suicide dive. Great start to the match thus far. Eddie then continously chops Richards, in which they start to brawl in the crowd just like they did in the first official Anthem episode of Impact. Richards then moves a garbage can/bin right by the stand, in which he teases suplexing Eddie on the bin, which Eddie prevents. Eddie attempts to do a plancha onto Richards, who smartly moves out of the way with Eddie landing chest fit onto the garbage can/bin. The action then moves inside the ring for the first time in the match, Angelina tosses in chairs, Eddie fires back using the chair to his advantage by smacking it on the back of Davey, he brings more chairs into play and then powerbombs Davey onto two chairs, painfully but awesome looking spot. Eddie organises the chairs into a pile and then proceeds to go up to the top rope, but Angelina distracts him, allowing Davey to superplex Eddie onto the chairs. Post Break. Once we return from the break, Angelina gives Davey a chain to inflict more punishment on his former best friends, being the ass that he is, Davey chokes Eddie with the chain in front of his wife. Davey continuously kicks Eddie, who gains that fighting spirit in him, in which he does machine gun chops to Davey followed by a overhead belly to belly into the turnbuckle. Eddie ties Davey in a tree of woe, laying chairs on his face, and then SHOTGUN DROPKICK TO HIS FACE! Edwards traps Davey’s head in chair, climbs up to the top rope, DOUBLE FOOT STOMP! Eddie’s wife jumps over the barricade, going for Angelina, briefly beating her with a belt, but this quickly backfires as Angelina tosses Eddie’s wife into a barricade. Davey wraps the steel chain around his ankle but hesitates to kill his partner until Angelina says ” Do it for me” BOOM! The match is over
Davey Richards def. Eddie via KO in 23;00 (****)
This match is must see and is probably the match of the year for Impact Wrestling so far. Got out of your way to check this out, you will not regret!
Alberto El Patron vs Unkown Jobber
Simple squash but I have no idea why this was the main event, after Eddie and Davey put on an amazing match.
